With school starting right around the corner, it’s important to be prepared! Children are always glued to their phones and iPads these days, so why not turn them into educational tools? We’ve identified some of the most useful apps that can be downloaded straight to your devices to enhance your child’s learning experience.

KHAN ACADEMY

This app is perfect for those who need a little extra boost outside of their classrooms. It teaches you a range of subjects such as maths, science, economics, arts, computing, etc. Once you’ve chosen your topic, you can then choose a grade or a sub-topic. Khan Academy will then provide
you with numerous videos to educate the topic in a clear and descriptive manner! This educational app also offers exam preparation for tests such as the SATs.

ITOOCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Itooch offers over 10,000 exercises, along with lesson summaries, a virtual blackboard to keep notes and praises for achievements. It stimulates children’s minds and can be incredibly enjoyable! It’s mainly suited for primary school kids aged six to 11.

SIMPLE MIND

This app is perfect for those who need prepare a lot within a short period of time, perhaps before a test. Simple Mind allows you to make virtual mind maps quickly at the tap of your fingers. You can also colour them in and make them visually attractive and easy to remember!

MYSTERY MATH TOWN

Mystery Math Town is based on a spooky town where the mission is to save fireflies. The player must solve maths problems to unlock doors and keep them unharmed. If the problems are unsolved, they must try again. This app keeps children entertained as well as challenged.

30/30

For those who have important exams coming up or struggle to keep up with their work, 30/30 is a great tool. It gives you 30 minutes to complete a task, and when the alarm goes off you move on. This is useful for people who often get distracted whilst working. The time pressure helps maintain your focus. If you have a large pile of homework, give yourself 30 minutes per page and the pile will deteriorate in no time!

SLEEP IF YOU CAN

This app, also known as ‘Alarmy’, is a quirky and innovative alarm clock that will ensure you’re up. It’s so tempting to hit snooze and shut your eyes, but with Alarmy by your side, it’ll never happen again. In order to turn Alarmy off, you must enter your bathroom and snap a picture of your sink. It’s genius! It forces you out of bed and into the bathroom to get ready for a long day.

MATH ALARM CLOCK

Want to get your kid’s brain working early in the morning? This alarm clock only turns off if you answer a simple maths question. It makes sure your kids don’t fall back asleep and gets their brain working for the day.

SELF-CONTROL

This app is perhaps for older students. It’s perfect for those who lack self-control. Self-control gives your computer permission to deny access to certain sites such as Facebook and Twitter for a set period of time.
