Salman Khan: Sentenced to five year of prison, yet still free
Published on May 11, 2015

After long 13 years of trials and court hearings, the verdict on Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case has been announced. On May 6, 2015 Salman Khan was pleaded guilty and sentenced to five years in prison for crashing his Toyota Land cruiser into a bakery killing one man and injuring four others.
However, just two days later, the Bombay High Court suspended the sentence and let out Khan on bail. The star’s lawyers filed for an appeal and the final hearing is scheduled for July 2015, until which Salman Khan is free. Despite the fact that Khan’s passport is surrendered, if the court permits the star will still be able to travel internationally and continue shooting his upcoming films.
Throughout the whole trial Khan himself denied being behind the wheel of the vehicle during the accident in 2002, however evidence suggested otherwise. The prosecution accused the star of driving under the influence of alcohol and unintentional homicide. After being found guilty and relieved from a jail sentence in 48 hours, Salman returned to his home. The high profile case sparked huge debates among people, pondering the question just how fair was the justice system with the superstar.
