Taste of Italy: Cipriani, Yas Island
Published on December 31, 2014
ABU DHABI At first glance the restaurant at Yas Yacht Club gave an instant picture of exquisite décor: Glossy wooden walls resembled the interior of a high-end European yacht club, while the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
I could no longer hold my curiosity as the aroma at Cipriani, Yas Island, beckoned me to look for the starters.
The kitchen staff at Cipriani served me classic Italian appetisers, including fresh and tender tuna tartare, seafood salad and carpaccio (raw beef slices with parmesean). A squeeze of lemon added the much-needed touch of zest to the seafood salad, while the carpaccio, though well-presented, could have used some extra flavour.
Cipriani is famous all around the world for their becca tagliolini, so I had to try that. The noodles were cooked precisely and the cheese had the perfect texture. The best part of the dish, however, was the strips of veal.
For dessert, I was served the most elegant chocolate cake I have ever tasted. The dark and moist flavour stimulated my palate like never before. The ice cream added a wonderful touch to the cake, and they complemented each other superbly.
The overall experience with Cipriani was positive, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fine dining with a fantastic view of Formula One.
