If you’re up for a neutral chill weather, China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and North India will be perfect for you with its spine-chilling winter breeze and pristine snow. However, if you’re looking for a little warmth this season, then the southern parts of these countries will definitely give you that comfort. Here’s what you should plan if Asia is your destination:

DONGZHI FESTIVAL IN CHINA

Revel in the merriments and enjoy the celebrations at the famous ‘Winter Solstice Festival’: December 22, dates may vary.

SHOGATSU IN JAPAN

Celebrate the Japanese New Year at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo: December 30.

EMPEROR OF JAPAN’S BIRTHDAY

Enter the palace grounds in Tokyo two days before Christmas: December 23.

PHILIPPINE’S CAROLS

Celebrate Christmas with music, food, fun and decorations as residents give away money or food to visitors: November onwards.

NORTH INDIA

There are several festivities lined up during the month of December:

  • Konark Festival: This festival features a range of classical dances, including Odissi, Bharathnatyam, Manipuri, Kathak and Chau. Moreover, you can visit exhibitions on the Orissa temple sculptures, sand arts and even enjoy a crafts fair: December 1 to 5 every year.
  • Delhi Street Food Festival: If you’re a food lover, then this festival will surely fill you up: December 19 to 21.

If you’re up for a snow-white Christmas, then Germany, Austria, France and Belgium are your best bet. They have the best Christmas markets that welcome you sweep you off your feet!

LILLE, FRANCE

Fly away to Lille, France where you will witness sparkles and glows with joie de vivre! Lille takes on a festive atmosphere with its winter wonderland, a place to get some dream Christmas shopping done: November 19 to December 30.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA

Known as ‘krippenmarkt’, Vienna offers an age-old tradition with its Christmas market: November 15 to Christmas Eve.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM

Unique ambiance, quality activities, delicious dishes, fairy tale lighting, rides — Brussels offers a 2km-long Christmas market: November 28 to January 4.
